Excellent solution for PS4 users, April 11, 2017

So far so good! I’m a PS4 owner who was quickly running out of space thanks to those larger titles. Get used to it, they’ll only get bigger and bigger as time goes on. I did run into a HECK of a lot of trouble getting the PS4 to initialize with this drive, so here’s some tips that ultimately worked for me:

    – Download the FULL file from the Playstation site, mine was around 870 mb for the most current update. There’s a much smaller file, around 400 mb I believe it was, that will NOT do the trick for a new HD.
    – Your drive must have 2 GB of free space and it must be FAT32. I tried this on a 1 GB FAT32 drive, no luck. Tried on a 500 GB external drive, but it wasn’t FAT so no luck. Formatted that drive to FAT32 and finally had success.
    – Toss that 870+ mb file on the drive in a folder named UPDATE within PS4. So it should be Drive -> PS4 -> UPDATE -> file

Be sure to backup your PS4 as it definitely is a huge help especially in regards to system settings if you tweaked those, and if you’re a Plus user your saves should be in the cloud but always a good idea to have a 2nd backup.

In regards to performance of the drive, it’s decent. I don’t notice a drastic increase in read speed from the PS4, but there is a noticeable difference when loading up those larger titles like Final Fantasy. The big question now will be reliability, but so far so good and any major problems would’ve normally happened already, so thus far a great drive.

What more do i need to say. Bought it for use on my PS4 Pro and installed it in the Pro when i got it. Works great and you will notice things do load faster.

Just remember you will need to download the current firmware for PS4 (pro & original use same firmware) and it needs to be full firmware download (the one thats over 900mb) to setup the PS4 operating system. Use a USB and make sure you download the file directly into the folder itself (PS4 > UPDATE > then the file).

Dont forget to do a system to system transfer if you have a PS4 already that has games and things on it. It will take a couple hours (around 2 or 3 hours usually), but if you play MMOs (FFXIV, Star Trek, Warframe, Elder Scrolls and so on) it will take longer unless you delete the games off your system before doing the system transfer. Thats because MMOs have a ton of files from always being updated and its just easier to redownload them from PSN.

You can also use that same process if your someone who likes to backup your files on an external drive.
