WARNING: This review is only for the E2316Hr. I see that Amazon has this review also on a 20" montior and a 19" montior with different specs! Sorry for the confusion, but I have no control over Amazon’s mixed review pages. The 23" has Displayport and VGA. The 20" and the 19" only have VGA. There probably are other differences, but again I’ve only use the 23". The rest of this review is for the 23" monitor:

This is a nice TN panel 23 inch monitor. The two most common types of monitors today are TN and IPS. IPS has better viewing angles and the ability to display more shades of color which makes them better for graphic designers. TN panels usually have higher response times which is why gamers use TN panels. It has DisplayPort and VGA ports. PLEASE CHECK YOUR COMPUTER BEFORE BUYING!

The information on Amazon seems to have updated their info and is now correct for the 23" version. This monitor has a DisplayPort and a VGA port. IT DOES NOT HAVE A HDMI PORT. If your computer has HDMI or DVI and you want to use this monitor, YOU CAN’T USE A CHEAP ADAPTER TO CONVERT TO DISPLAYPORT. You have to use the VGA port on your computer (hopefully it still has one). Displayport to HDMI or Displayport to DVI adapters only work when Displayport is the source (computer side). I don’t know if there is an adapter that will work going to DisplayPort on this monitor. Often, home use computers have HDMI and many business class computers have Display Port.

For a TN panel, the picture is very nice. On a cheap TN panel, you barely tilt your head and the picture quality changes… But here you really have to look at a side angle to notice the picture fading. I prefer an IPS, but it’s a good quality TN monitor.

Also, this does not come with a Display Port cable, but it does come with a VGA cable. That is what the "r" in the E2316Hr means. The E2316Hr and the E2316H are the same monitor just the E2316Hr comes with a VGA cable and the E2316H comes with a Display Port cable.

This monitor was 0 on Amazon, but now it’s been under 0. It really is a nice monitor. I bought four more of these on Amazon for a client. We used the VESA holes with a floating monitor mount and they look really nice.

It does have Dell’s great 3 year warranty where Dell will ship you a replacement monitor first and then Dell will pay the shipping for you to return the monitor! I’ve not had a better monitor warranty than Dell’s Advanced Exchange warranty. My business purchases around 50 Dell monitors a year and we rarely have issues with them. I think we’ve used the warranty 2-3 times in the last 5 years of buying monitors!

The stand only has tilt–no height adjustment built into the stand. But, there are Vesa holes on the back so you can mount this monitor to a desk or wall mount. I use both Ergatron and Dell monitor stands and I love the flexibility they give me. I love having my monitors "floating" above my desk!

In the end, the monitor looks nice and works well. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s nice enough to be worth the extra cost.

Very important: this monitor does NOT have an HDMI port as the specifications indicate. It only has DisplayPort and VGA.

That means if your PC does not have DisplayPort you’re going to need an adapter of some kind. Chances are no matter what port you have you’re going to need an adapter or a cable to connect to it. Oddly the only cable they do include is the VGA cable despite the fact that many current PCs lack VGA these days (nor can VGA cables reach the full 1080p resolution of the monitor). Additionally my HDMI to DisplayPort adapter does not seem to be working on this monitor for some reason.

When I did get the display up and running (using a mini-displayport to displayport adapter) the image quality looked decent for the price. Colors are good, and the response rate is pretty nice for fast moving motion. This is a TN display which lacks the visual punch of more expensive IPS displays that have better viewing angles and contrast ratios. But it doesn’t have much glare, making it much easier to work with in rooms with windows or other light sources that often reflect back on the glossy screens.

Before you buy – find the right adapter to work with your computer. They need to change the product description to more accurately describe what kind of ports it actually has.

A little disappointment not worth a hundred dollars, June 15, 2016

There’s no damage to the box. I saw this huge line of light on the bottom of the screen. It’s probably due to improper sealing. Giving it a two stars for amazon’s return policy. Picture quality is below average even when compared to a older model. That’s all.
