A good but less complete game than previous Vita versions, best bought if you are using cross play.,
This review is from: MLB 15: The Show Game Voucher – PlayStation Vita (Video Game)
Another update to this review… The online features of this game (after not working for at least a month) have suddenly started working again (MLB The Show Live, where you can play all current day’s games, and roster updates), so I have to edit my review again. This is a good game if you are cross saving a franchise on your PS3 or PS4, but it’s lacking in other areas and is only available as a download (no physical copy), so I’d recommend going with The Show 13 or 14 if you’re only playing Vita. Here’s the quick and dirty on this game, followed by my original 4 star review. Pros: Cons: ***ORIGINAL REVIEW*** I decided to make the jump to The Show 15 from The Show 13 this year, because I bought a PS4 and also bought The Show 15 for that. I want to be able to cross save my franchise. So my comparisons of this version are to both The Show 13 for Vita and The Show 15 for PS4. First of all, the ugly. There is currently a bug in this game reported in several reviews already. In The Show 13, while at bat, the opposing pitcher’s pitches would be listed. This year, they have decided to hide them in a menu accessed by pressing R while at the plate (this also let’s you guess what pitch the pitcher might throw, and let’s you view the pitch history of your current at bat. However, pushing R will sometimes trigger a bug which will remove all pitch information/pitch history for the rest of the game. So when a pitcher throws a ball, and you don’t swing, you won’t see where it landed, whether it was a ball or strike, or the pitch type. This is a major bug, but is currently high on the list of reported Vita bugs on The Show’s website, so I’m holding out hope for it to be fixed. I don’t use "guess pitch" ever and don’t usually look at the pitches a pitcher has, so this doesn’t affect me as much, but it’s still a huge bug. (I’ll try to remember to update if they ever fix it) The good: Gameplay is also good, but mostly unchanged from The Show 13. The only difference is hitting fastballs seems to be harder on this version, and pitching on All Star level, while manageable in 13, is resulting in me giving up 10+ runs each game. I’ll continue to stick with it for now, but I might need to turn pitching difficulty down. Which brings me to: Dynamic Difficulty – I believe this is a new feature, where the game will slide the difficulty up or down based on how you are playing. I haven’t toyed around with it too much, but you can set it separately for pitching and batting. It looks like it determines how you are doing at the current level, and too many positive or negative performances at that level will make the difficulty shift up or down one level to see how you do there. Pretty cool, though I don’t know that I want the game taking mercy on me for being terrible (and I am). The bad:

I too pre-ordered this 4 months prior to release, to the people that didn’t know it was DLC only they did not read the specific description that stated it was just a game voucher, that’s on them and not on Sony or even Amazon.
In regards to the game itself it’s a mixed bag, I see the vision of wanting to bring the console experience to the handheld but certain things such as broadcast view for pitching could’ve used some vita specific tweaking on the small screen as some elements are just too small to see. The lack of vibrate on the vita also hurts some playing modes and throwing settings, it kind of renders them useless. The cross-save works like a charm as does the import of RTTS saves from MLB 14. The downloading/uploading speeds are pretty slow but that’s a Vita staple in general with all downloads I’ve experienced. These complaints are minor in the grand scheme of things and the simple fact that Sony continues to support all of its system lineups with this years version of the game is commendable, the pricing of also makes it a great value in my humble opinion considering it has been at launch the last 3 years. Would’ve rated at 3.5 stars if they gave me the option so I rounded up to curb the 1 star reviews that complain about the fact that it was a download and didn’t actually touch on the game itself.

Few issues/bugs with the game so far.
1) Download is super slow off their severs. Did a bit of googling and once I changed my DNS servers to google’s dns servers, it picked up significantly. Before it was showing that it’ll take 650 minutes to download. After changing my DNS servers, it only took about 60 minutes. 2) There seems to be a bug where pitch information disappears. For the first 1-2 batters, it shows you the information about each pitch (location, speed, early or late swing). Then it stops showing it for the rest of the game. Not just no information, you don’t even see where the pitch landed so it’s hard to tell how close to the strike zone pitches are. Very very annoying and kind of a deal breaker. 3) They still have the bug with pitchers that have 5 pitches. If you’re facing a pitcher with 5 pitches, they will aways throw their 5th pitch 100% of the time. For example, if their 5th pitch is a changeup, every pitch he throws will be a changeup, no exception. Huge bug in my opinion and it was there in the 2014 version of the game. EDIT (7/28): I don’t know if this is a bug or a feature (I never read the manual) but if it’s a bug, I’d say it’s a pretty huge one. You can basically tell the pitcher what kind of pitch you want him to throw. You can’t tell him where to throw it (AFAIK) at least. The lack of pitch information and batter walkups is still there. No patch yet and it’s been 3+ months since the game has been out. I think at this point, it’ll be the last The Show game I’ll be purchasing :/ It’s a shame because I really love the game minus the huge glaring bugs. EDIT2: Just checked the mlb the show bug report forums and apparently all of the open VITA bug reports have disappeared. I don’t know if they closed them or just deleted them but it really looks like they have no plans to fix the game. |

Pros:
Newest rosters you’ll find on Vita.
New “directional” hitting style, which lets you “aim” right or left, or try to hit a fly ball or grounder.
GM Contracts in Franchise, which will make you have to meet certain goals or you’ll be fired.
Dynamic Difficulty – the game will adjust difficulty based on how you play (I’ve turned it off because I found a good mix).
Integration with PS4 version so you can cloud save and play games for the same franchise on both systems.
Cons:
Less information available while pitching/hitting. Pitch confidence is gone. Pitch speed is gone though it’s still being tracked because the announcer refers to the speed from time to time. Batter walkup (so you know who is hitting) is gone. Bullpen fatigue is gone (I have to check all my pitchers fatigue before the game starts).
Bugs – Guessing the pitch will sometimes remove the pitch tracker for the rest of the game (ball/strike/pitch type). Haven’t made it to mid season yet, but some are experiencing a mid-season crash in franchise mode that people aren’t sure how to get around.
No physical copy, and it’s 3.2 GB.

The good:
This game almost exactly matches the PS4 version. Same menus, same hitting/fielding/pitching control options, and most importantly, same deep franchise mode. This year offers GM contracts in the franchise mode, which requires you to hit yearly goals, and a long-term “contract goal” which I believe you have to hit to continue as a GM for the team. For bad teams, a yearly goal might be “Finish over .500”, with a long-term goal of “Make the postseason”. For better teams, a contract goal might be to win a World Series. I’m not sure how long GM contracts are, because I haven’t had a chance to get into it enough yet, but I love a good, deep franchise mode, and this has it. I’m guessing both the Vita and PS4 versions need to match, so you can cross save between the two.
Gameplay is also good, but mostly unchanged from The Show 13. EDIT (7/28):
Ok so I’ve figured out the details on my third bug. I’ve only tested this with RTTS but it works with any pitcher. If you hold R1 down and use the touch screen to touch a pitch (not the corresponding pitch button), the pitcher will always throw that pitch. So for example, I’ve been having every pitcher throw a change up. If a pitcher has a changeup, the corresponding button varies. For some pitcher’s , it’s the triangle button, others it’s the R1 button, etc. So I’ll hold R1 down and touch the changeup button and they always throw it.
I don’t know if this is a bug or a feature (I never read the manual) but if it’s a bug, I’d say it’s a pretty huge one. You can basically tell the pitcher what kind of pitch you want him to throw. You can’t tell him where to throw it (AFAIK) at least.
