Works well with my Truckee motherboard and 460W PSU, April 29, 2013

I have the misfortune of owning an HP computer that has a Pegatron Truckee motherboard that is incompatible with standard power supplies and only seems to work with the OEM 460W PSU. I bought this card mainly because of its low power draw and the fact that its performance was well balanced with the capabilities of the motherboard.

Card installed without any problem. I stress tested it using the Valley benchmark and it ran fine without any sign of trouble. Did need to add a fan to the case as it did overheat with the side on the case. Am now very pleased with the overall performance of the computer.

Only negative is that the supposed mail-in rebate from Amazon was impossible to claim; not only did the rebate number given by Amazon not exist on the XFX web site, the packaging from Amazon does not have a UPC bar code, so even if the rebate did exist there would be no way of claiming it!

Radeon HD 7850 is a good card, but this one has a crappy cooler, January 23, 2014

I’ve had other HD 7850s and while the 7850 itself is a great GPU, this particular card has an awful cooler. It sucks hot air from inside the case and blows it right back into the case. It gets much higher temps then it should. Even in a well ventilated case I saw temps over 75 degrees. Due to the horrible cooler it is nearly impossible to give it any substantial overclock as well.

If you looking for a good midrange gaming card, the 7850 is a great choice in terms of performance/dollar, however I recommend looking for one with a better cooler. The 2GB of GDDR also makes a huge performance difference over the 1 GB version.

if you have a small case, this is the shortest HD 7850 that is widely available.

Easy to install, fantastic price for what you get – excellent frame rates, stunning 3D gaming, excellent resolution options for large monitors – couldn’t ask for anything more at this price.
