I bought this game for the Mac, there aren’t that many available, and wasn’t expecting too much, how surprised I was at how therapeutic this game was, it is a basic kill and run game, there are no real puzzles to solve just monsters to kill as you work your way from one area to another.
The atmosphere is surprising and quite shocking at times, which adds to the games appeal, thoroughly enjoyable to lose a few minutes to just letting go and just enjoying the moment when you are able to kill the monsters without the surprise of the one you didn’t see as your world turns red and you think, “Where the frick did that one come from?”, as everything fades on the screen and the reload screen appears 🙂

I don’t play many games, so getting Doom 3 for .00 was alright with me.
This game has a basic story, unlike Bioshock, which has a very interesting storyline. This game is about escaping an underground office/lab/research station complex on Mars, whilst shooting monsters and zombies that jump out of nowhere, scaring the s— out of me at times (i’m 40 years old, so laugh all you want). I played the regular level, and I didn’t use any cheat codes or the like. I found the game fun, though repetitive ,yet enough monsters surprises keep it going. I really thought the “Hell” level was the end of the game…. but I was wrong. Talking about the Hell level, it was quite a good interpretation, of Dante’s Inferno with lot’s of fire and brim stone. Not a nice place to go on vacation. Anyway, the game was good, but a bit long. The big boss was not terribly hard to beat. Installed on Macmini Intel Core 2 (the last core2 model with a dvd drive), Running 10.7. Great Game, Great Port,

First off, it’s worth saying that Doom 3 is still an excellent looking and playing shooter. It was back in 2004, and it still is 10 years later. Even despite its age, it’s certainly better than most shooters today and even the "enhanced" BFG Edition, which disappointed me in the lowered difficulty and modified atmosphere. So rather than focusing on the game itself, I’m going to look at the port that Aspyr has done for the newer Intel Macs.
Firstly, nothing has been modified from the base game, as some ports have a habit of doing. It’s Doom 3, but the most up-to-date version. Secondly, the game has widescreen support right out of the box. No additional mods or editing required. This is good for people wanting to get the best looking game. It also runs great on many systems from the last few years. Finally, this version supports mods, including Sikkmod. This all makes for one of Aspyr’s best ports. If you haven’t played Doom 3 yet, and you’re a first-person shooter fan, you owe it to yourself to play this. It’s a great shooter with amazing lighting and a creepy atmosphere. For those just curious if it’s a good port, it’s a great port of Doom 3. It’s absolutely worth the price tag, even for those who own the game on another platform. |
