My thoughts on the ASUS E200HA…
I want to start by saying this is the smallest and least expensive machine that I have ever used. I normally work with a few Sony VAIO with 8GBs of RAM and i7 processors. So I’m used to expensive and speed. This laptop doesn’t NOT look cheap. It’s very sturdy and doesn’t feel like it is going to break. That’s one of the reason I choose this over the HP Stream 11 which looked childish and cheap with the bright plastic. I’ve showed it to some people and they thought it cost 2-3x’s as much. I had no issues setting up the computer. It took less than 10 minutes for the entire process. I did already have a Microsoft account and I setup Cortana later in the day. When you first get the laptop. It’s recommended that you charge the battery before first use. My laptop arrived at 50% and only took a little more than an hour to be completely charged while I was using it. I did take me about 30 seconds to get the screen to initially turn on, so don’t panic if that happens to you. The laptop will continue to quick charge while in use, which is amazing. Once the computer is setup it has around 17.3 GB of space for internal storing. ASUS supports a 64 GB memory card so I definitely recommended. Office is included, just open one of the programs to active your subscription. Activating Office 365 doesn’t interfere with any of the space on the computer’s internal drive. I recommended changing the color a bit on the laptop, it’s not the best and it takes some time to get used to. Go to all apps, ASUS and from that menu you can adjust the color. Under the splendid utility selection (I think that Vivid looks the best). You can also calibrate the colors to your liking. Over the viewing angles are just okay, and you’ll need to adjust the screen to figure out what works best for you. The battery life is amazing. This will easily get you 10 hours of use. That includes watching YouTube videos and listening to Spotify. I haven’t had any issues with the 2GB of ram while multitasking and I have been trying to push the limits of this machine. So far so good. I opened 7 tabs, including Spotify and Facebook. I also had Outlook 2016, along with Word 2016 and Netflix. Facebook took the longest time to load but was still usable. None of the video from Netflix lagged and the music didn’t lag from Spotify. I don’t recommended running this much at a time but it didn’t freeze. I have a Dell PC that I have to use for work that freezes up when I run that many task all of the time and this performed better than that when it comes to multi-tasking. Overall, I’m very pleased with this purchase, especially for the price. The web camera app in Windows 10 is awful, but I didn’t use Google Hangouts with a friend and they said I looked fine. For some reason the camera works better outside of the app. The web pages all load quickly and I’ve had multiple tabs opened with no problem. I recommended using an Ad Blocker with Google Chrome for the best performance. I don’t recommend this for using InDesign and Photoshop, coding, extreme video game play or anything that is graphic heavy and needs a lot of RAM. This would be fine for general note taking in classrooms or for young children.

Best sub-0 Windows 10 laptop currently on the market (as of March 2016), By

The E200-HA from Asus is the replacement to the aging X205TA, which was one of the better sub-0 Windows 8 laptops. That device had very similar specs: 32 GB eMMC, 2 GB RAM, 2 USB 2.0 ports, a 1366×768 display – but it had Windows 8.1 and it had the Intel Atom 3775F processor, from the Bay Trail generation. This new device ships with Windows 10, and also upgrades the processor to the new Cherry Trail generation x5-Z8300. This is the same processor from the Intel Compute Stick 2016, and is in the same chip generation – but a slower version – as the processor in the Microsoft Surface 3 2-in-1. Let’s start with Windows 10, which is in my opinion a significantly better OS than Windows 8.1, and it also runs very well on lower end hardware. The x5 processor is snappy and responsive in core OS functions like booting up, shutting down, opening Windows Explorer and managing settings. Set-up on this device is extremely easy, especially if you already have a Microsoft account. There aren’t a ton of Windows 10 updates needed, and that process is smooth and easy, and if you log into your existing MS account, your theme and settings will sync over to this device. The x5-Z8300 processor has a base speed of 1.44 GHz with turbo to 1.84 GHz, and is a quad-core processor. It has performance that is mostly in-line with the outgoing Bay Trail processors, but it has improved graphics processing performance, with more Execution Units : 12 in Cherry Trail, vs. 4 on Bay Trail. Octane 2.0 and Geekbench benchmarks will show similar performance to Bay Trail in most respects, so don’t expect a leap in performance; that said, Bay Trail was itself a reasonably good performer for the price. Battery life was exceptional on the X205TA and that trend continues here. This laptop can run for 8-10 hours in mixed use with 70% brightness, including video streaming, word processing, and web browsing. It is an all-day device. It is also exceptionally light, at only 2.16 pounds; this laptop has the same body as the X205TA, which isn’t a bad thing. It is a budget device. but it looks professional and has a nicely textured plastic lid and frame. The keyboard feels less "sharp" to type on than that of the X205TA, but it is a relatively small keyboard; it isn’t full-size, but I got used to it very quickly. The screen is quite good for a budget device. It is a glossy display, so it is reflective, but the tradeoff is that it is bright and vibrant compared to the HP Stream 11 or Acer Cloudbook 11. The trackpad is also improved from the X205TA. That device’s trackpad had constantly crashing drivers, whereas this one’s has worked consistently during two weeks of use. It obviously isn’t a MacBook trackpad, but cheap Windows trackpads are much better than they used to be: this one is responsive, and works with gesture controls (unlike the Lenovo 100s.) For connectivity this device has two USB ports, now with one 3.0 and one 2.0, and has 802.11ac WiFi which is fast and has good range. It has micro-SD card slot, and a micro-HDMI for external display; the latter will require you to have an adapter or an HDMI-to Micro-HDMI cable on-hand, which isn’t ideal. RAM is still 2 GB and storage is still 32GB of eMMC flash storage. I am hoping that Asus will release a version with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of eMMC flash storage, as both of those options would be much more comfortable and provide better longevity for this laptop. That said, you can get by with 2 GB of RAM as long as your multitasking expectations are reasonable, and users will have about 15 GB of useable space for local installation after accounting for Windows 10 and the immediate updates the OS requires. MS Office runs quite well on x5-Z8300 systems, provided you’re staying with more basic functions; advanced macros, templates, and complex presentations will bog down badly due to the processor and RAM limitations. The web browsing experience in the Edge browser is good, considering the price point of the hardware. Pages render reasonably quickly. Chrome, being more of a RAM hog, does slow down after a few tabs, so multi-tab browsing is easier in Edge. Gaming is possible on this laptop as long as you check your expectations. I was able to run plenty of newer Indie titles on Steam like Nuclear Throne and Axiom Verge, as well as Hearthstone on "low" settings and Halo: Spartan Strike and Hitman GO through the Windows store. Steam streaming works well, through the 802.11ac WiFi. Newer games and AAA titles will most likely not run in a playable form. Regarding Minecraft, version 1.8 ran well using Optifine; you’ll average around 30 FPS at 1366×768. The Windows 10 beta edition runs much better, as it is based on the Pocket edition. As far as Hearthstone, it runs smoothly on "low" settings. All in all, this is my pick – as of March 2016 – for the best, sub-0 Windows…
