Great Multi-tasking monitor and Alternative Multi-Screen setup, July 13, 2013
By

Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This particular monitor is suited for a couple types of people.

The first type of person is the multi-tasker. Its very easy to modify the screen setup to display any number of windows with the included screen application.
Just pick you preference, One, two or up to six segmented screens. Simple and productive, particularly for reading two pages of text, multiple spreadsheets or two browser windows side by side.

The second type of person is the for the widescreen gamer / movie watcher or someone that does not have the desk real estate for multiple monitors.
This is viable alternative to having two screens side by side with no bezel in the middle.
The added advantage is with the vertical pixel reduction to 1080 over a 30 inch monitor running at 2560X1600 resolution is higher frame rates and lower overall graphics card requirements, but are still getting the extra wide view.

Color quality, options, and picture quality on this monitor are excellent.
Bezel gets an extra postive nod, as its nearly invisible.

The only real downside is dependent on the age of the application (or game) that you are running.
Some applications (pre-2005) cannot properly scaling image or interfaces for the 21:9 screen ratio (using the 2560 pixel horizontal width), leading to forced stretch of the image.
However, all is not lost. You just have to 1:1 scale the image and it will use 16:9 ratio perfectly at 1920X1080 (with black bars on the remaining portion of screen).

I run this particular monitor directly off my sager notebook docking station with no issues.
Remember to invest in a display port or mini-display port connector cable to run the full graphic level of performance at 2560X1080, as this is the easiest way to connect the monitor.

Overall recommended as a lower cost alternative to a 30″ screen with nearly the same level of performance.

2560×1080 is a compromise you should make for prices on ultrawides. 16:9 will soon be a thing of the past., June 2, 2016

This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2913WM 29-Inch Ultra Widescreen LED-Lit Monitor (Personal Computers)
I bought a refurbished U2913WM. Right out of the box, it looked brand new. Shipping was great (no original box) and everything works fine. No light bleed, no minor damage at all. Looks and feels brand new. I assume the person who had it before and sent it to dell ran into a minor issue. The only cables it did come with were a mini dp-dp, dvi-d (although it looked like a used cable, not using it anyways), and a usb a-usb3. No normal dp-dp, and no hdmi. Although, because it was refurbished, I expected that. I have since bought a dp-dp and it works great. I was not willing to use the mini-dp port for lack of the locking mechanism. All cables looked to be about 3 feet.

This is only the first week I have had it, but I have had no problems with inputs, or the sleep setting. The picture quality is amazing. The only thing I did was adjust the brightness. I read a lot of positive reviews and I can see why. You can tell right out of the box that dell has great quality control with calibration on their monitors, and that was my main reason for choosing this monitor. The menu was also great and very easy to use, as well as the buttons to surf through it. The last monitor I had was an ASUS and the quality of this Dell monitor just makes those ASUS ones look cheap. On every single monitor I have had before this one, I have had to settle for some degree of saturation, or off white and adjust contrast to crazy levels as well as the brightness being turned way up to even see different levels of browns vs blacks. Not the case with the Dell. Picture quality right out of the box shows amazing calibration and quality control. Also, using the menu is very user friendly, and the monitor does not shake or wobble a singe bit. Very well built. Very well calibrated.

Thanks for reading the review, and I would advise you to sift through some of the negative ones who bought either used or re-manufactured from private sellers. Never do that unless you can test it yourself in person. Common sense. Unless someone updated their review and ran into an issue, which I saw a couple that were still kind of shifty to judge, I would avoid them. Take the step in going ultrawide, even it it means compromise to 2560×1080. Well worth it imo. Maybe next year I can afford the Dell 34" curved. After using this one, I would love to go a step up when the prices drop.

UPDATE 6-27-16
Just keeps getting better 😉
I have found that sRGB provides the best picture quality, and I use the MAC gamma setting as well in that mode. Absolutely perfect. I actually wish they would make a 34" version that is not curved.

UPDATE 7-11-16
Handles games very nicely. No issues at all. Anyone who wrote a review about screen tearing or complaining about laggy-ness has no idea how to optimize their playback and should be banned from reviews. This said, it sure would be nice to see a 21:9 144Hz Dell monitor that does not cost a contract signed in blood with the devil… I mean seriously, those things are way too expensive and the curved stuff it just stupid IMO. If they make a flat 3440×1440 144Hz monitor, I will trade this in… until then, I am more than happy and games are very immersive and enjoyable.

Fantastic Monitor on Macbook Pro and Macbook Air 2012, August 2, 2016

This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2913WM 29-Inch Ultra Widescreen LED-Lit Monitor (Personal Computers)
This is a sensational Monitor on my Macbook Pro and Macbook Air 2012. I’m using this for productivity (spreadsheets, email, general office stuff) in addition to web page management, google account management, etc. Basically, I’m a small business owner and this monitor has totally upgraded my computing experience.

NOTE: if you’re using a mac laptop, you’re going to have to use your mini display port/thunderbolt jack and a native cable. THIS IS IMPORTANT: Use a native cable with no connector/converter or the monitor will not work. I spent a ton of time trying to get HDMI to work or thunderbolt via an DVI connection. It won’t work like that. Thus, use the mini display port to display port cable that comes in the box.

The clarity and functionality of this monitor is amazing. I can stack projects side by side and get a ton of work done more quickly. Awesome monitor
