Game is full of unique experiences, not to mention a beautiful environment, November 21, 2014
This review is from: Far Cry 4 – PlayStation 4 (Video Game)
Last night I found boat, motored myself through some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen in a video game, and then crashed it into some bad guys standing on a beach. I then proceeded to spray a nearby building with my flamethrower which burned another 3 of them alive. Running away from 2 survivors, I jumped up on an elephant and charged a truck moving at full speed. The truck was destroyed, as were the 3 bad dudes inside. Sadly, the elephant died as well.

Then, out of the forest, came 2 pissed off elephants. One charged me, nearly killing me. The other, destroyed 2 incoming vehicles in a fit of rage. They both then walked over to their departed friend and stood there for a few minutes before retreating back into the forest. I walked over to the dead elephant, paid my respects, healed myself, hopped on a nearby hang glider, and floated away while contemplating the fragility of life.

Yes, this game is amazing.

Far Cry 4 First Impressions, November 19, 2014
This review is from: Far Cry 4 – PlayStation 4 (Video Game)

If you had told me that I would not only enjoy, but be praising another Ubisoft game after the absolute travesty of a launch that Unity had not only a week after it happened, I would have told you that you were off your rocker. I’m not British, but I still would have said it 😀 I’m not sure what prompted me to purchase FC4, perhaps it was how disappointed I was in the technical problems of Unity, or just being starved for a new game (The last new game I purchased was Advanced Warfare, and that one doesn’t count because you sneeze and the campaign is over, so before that was Shadow of Mordor), but I decided to sell Unity to fund this buy. Ironic, right? Sell one Ubisoft Montreal game to buy another? Well I can confirm that it was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. Without further ado, let’s get to it! (Just as a last disclaimer, as with all of my reviews, this is a first impressions and I will be listing my pros and cons, then do a final wrap up. I will include more information and update the review as I continue to play the game)

In my almost 3 hours with the game last night, I found a ton of things that I have enjoyed, and a few things that irked me. Like everyone else, my biggest concern was that this would be Far Cry 3.5, and not really a next game. The game looked the same, the animations were the same, even the map icons were the same. Well I can attest that it certainly feels like Far Cry 3 initially, they have made enough changes, along with the new setting, to where it really does not feel like a ripoff of the same game, or like it should have been a DLC. To me, it’s like Arkham City is to Asylum. There are extreme similarities to be sure, but they made a lot of positive changes and put enough in to make it feel like it’s a different game. Sure, I would have loved if they would have at least TRIED to change up the map icons a bit, but hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Right? Anyways, my list of positive changes are as follows.

Pros:
– First off, Troy Baker. Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I am an avid Troy Baker lover, and he doesn’t disappoint in the slightest. I was concerned that because Ubi knew how popular Vaas was in Far Cry 3, that they would try to just make a cheap ripoff crazy guy, and call it good. And maybe it’s because I’m biased towards Baker, but Pagan Min is definitely not a ripoff of Vaas. I don’t think he was as good as Vaas, because Vaas was just amazing, and took everyone by storm, but he is certainly his own villain, and doesn’t feel the same. So props to Ubi for not just cashing in on some crap villain that won’t be memorable.

– Second, graphics. One of the main reasons that I was nervous to purchase this game, was because of Unity. I didn’t experience any of the glitches that everyone else did, but my frame rate drops were so bad that I literally couldn’t play after my initial time putting the disk in. I tried and tried, and made it to the beginning of sequence 4, but I could only play in 20-30 minute segments. It was that bad. Fear not, for this game runs as smooth as butter. I haven’t purposely tried to break the frame rate yet, just to see if it can take anything that I throw at it, but to this point I have not seen a single drop. Frame rate aside, the game looks absolutely gorgeous on PS4. I can’t even imagine how good that it looks on PC. As with any game, if you get up close and personal, the textures aren’t very good, but from far away, it really is breathtaking. There has been more than once where I stopped to take screenshots (That I wish I could make my background of my PS4 main screen. Come on Sony!!) because it looks that good. Very pleased with the look and art style of the game.

– The file size is very manageable. I believe it was only 25 gigs, with a half gig Day 1 patch? Most of the games that I have been playing are at least 40, with sometimes getting up into the 55 range, and with a 500 gig hard drive, it fills up quick. So I was pleased with that.

– Another thing that I don’t understand why Sony got rid of on PS4 is showing your game time on save files. So this game will show you the % of the game that you have completed, along with how long you have been playing. Not a major pro, but one that I was very happy to see. I like to know how much of my life I’ve wasted 😉

– This one I was very surprised by, and discovered quite by accident. I’ve always said that the most useless feature of the DualShock 4 controller was the “touch” pad. Everyone just uses it as another button, usually it ends up being the map button. And while I love having a dedicated map button, if it’s not going to be a touch pad, then don’t make it a touch pad, just make it another button. Well this game actually uses the touch functionality. If you press the button it opens up your map, but if you just rest your thumb on it it will bring up your weapon wheel, the one that you…

Its A beautiful game. I had a great time playing this. My first few hours in I was hooked and addicted already wanting to call it one of the best games I played this year. 18hrs later after a handful of sidemissions, I got to the last mission surprised that I had reached the end of the game. then it ended and I felt no desire to play it again. The game was fun but once I beat it I had felt like I basically did the same things over and over again. It’s a giant great world but nothing really stood out as memorable. I look back on it now and it feels like the entire world was just little variations of the same thing. I can appreciate the developers work on this because you can see they worked hard on it but the novelty wore off towards the end. It’s definitely a game worth playing but i don’t see any replayability on this unless you play online co-op for a friend. for a person like me that solely enjoys just single player campaigns…. it was good but I don’t care to replay it ever again.

I also did not like the shangri-la sequences. i found them rather annoying.

and thats all i have to say. for any cry babies or people that don’t agree with my opinion… just remember it’s just an opinion and everybody has one. some ppl will agree…. others won’t.
