I’m going to give you the facts. This card is NOT the best card on the market, obviously, but there are some people who are trying to compare this card to high-level cards. I believe that’s just plain ridiculous. This is a mid-level GPU with plenty of grunt and a multitude of features. My previous card was a HD 5770, and it was really starting to show its age. I began to research, and it came down to two choices: GTX 960 or R9 280x.

Why did I choose the GTX 960? Well, I have a small rig and my power supply is only 550W. I really need a card that’s not too power hungry and efficient. I also purchased this card on sale, so it was less than 0 with taxes and shipping. This GPU also came with a free copy of THE WITCHER 3. The R9 280x is a good card in its own respect, and it does beat the GTX 960 on raw power alone. This means that the R9 280x will get better FPS with games that aren’t optimized for Nvidia. I decided that for my situation that I’d prefer the GTX 960, and it plays my games really well. My card is completely stock and not overclocked. I have 96 active mods on Skyrim right now, and the game runs very smoothly with a consistent 50+ FPS.

My conclusion is that this is a brilliant card! Purchase it and you will be happy. There are better cards out there, and if you’re willing to dish out another 0, then do so. For us regular chumps who just want to play and not worry about covering rent, then go ahead and purchase this card.

Update: I still think this a good card! I’ve been playing The Witcher 3, and it can play the game quite well. No, you won’t get a max of 60 FPS because the card just doesn’t have the grunt for it. I have to play W3 at lower settings, and it still looks terrific. All other games I have (Borderlands 2, Skyrim, and Tomb Raider) don’t have any issues reaching 60 FPS at MAX settings.

Great card for the price!, April 23, 2015
This review is from: MSI GAMING GTX 960 4GB OC Twin Frozr-V HDCP Ready SLI Support (GTX 960 GAMING 4G) (Personal Computers)
I just picked up this card this week. I was upgrading my video OLD GTX 460 card so I could play Grand Theft Auto V. My budget was around 0, so the 970 line was out of the question. First thing this card is huge. It BARELY fit in my HP. I had to move a lot of cables to make sure nothing was rubbing against the fan. I almost had to pull my hard drive just to get this card in my case. But if it fit in my i7 mid tower case, it should fit in most tower cases. Anything smaller, not a chance.

Once I got the card in, and drivers installed, I fired up GTA V. I turned all of the graphic features on, and got 55-60+ FPS at 1680 x 1050. Game looked stunning. I never noticed a slow down, or graphic glitches during the 4 hours I played last night.

Having 4 GB of RAM really helps with GTA. Anyone wanting to play GTA and you don’t want to spend 0+, this is a great option.

I never heard the fans running. Card comes with a 6 pin to 8 pin power converter. And a DVI to VGA converter. Would have been nice if there was a Displayport to DVI converter cable included.

I’ve got it hooked up to two monitors, and windows performance is flawless. So far I love this card!!!

Perfect Fit for an Alienware x51, February 2, 2015

We’ve all been waiting for Nvidia’s successor to the GTX 660 and finally with the release of the GTX 960 we have that video card. This is a reference design, consumes 120 watts and produces less heat thanks to the new chipset! I will tell anyone upgrading their x51’s to give this card a gander and before upgrading make sure you have the 330 watt powerbrick!
