Great realistic software;needs tutorials, August 5, 2013

The flight realism is outstanding coming from a former single engine aircraft pilot, but the program takes a long time to load. The company should invest in online video tutorials especially aircraft navigation in the more sophisticated jet aircraft. Currently, I have to rely on amateur YouTube videos for tips on navigation, but they are of poor quality. With such a sophisticated and realistic flight simulation, unlike MS flight sim that is really just a game, it befuddles me why the company doesn’t produce it’s own video tutorials to cover navigation including, but not limited to auto-pilot and flight computer. For instance, with the 747, show how to set preflight and inflight navigation from take off from one airport to landing at another. Come on x-plane, think of your customers, we are generally not former or current heavy aircraft pilots–throw us a bone!

This is a 5 star program if you are serious about flying because the computer modeling is very close to how the real planes fly. If you just want to "yank and bank" or shoot things down, look for something else.

I have the global version. It’s a fabulous program. I mostly fly in the USA, in fact mostly around my own state, so this lower priced version of X-Plane would be enough. Still, I’m glad to have the option to fly to the South Pacific or anywhere else with the global version. Either way X-Plane is an amazing simulation with amazing graphics and amazing modeling. I’ve been using it since the mid-1990’s. Each version is an extra-ordinary upgrade. This is a work of love by a fantastic programmer and team. If you can’t afford to have your own fleet of prop planes and jet planes then X-Plane is a very close second best. And as my wife says, at least this way I’m always home in time for dinner! 🙂
