Trails of the Flash 2, September 7, 2016
This review is from: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II – PlayStation Vita (Video Game)
The game is an continuation of the last one so if you liked the last game’s story or combat system get this one.

Gameplay
The gameplay has vastly improved from the last one. There are numerous additions in all directions, including airship and massive improvements to the combat system. There are relatively more framerate drops in this game compared to the last one though. The last dungeon is procedurally generated(although level capped) so you can try out people as you like. Haven’t gotten to it yet, but the Japanese version had bonus characters for you in the end if you grind enough money in the end which is nice.

Story
The last game last me 60 hours, ignoring all the changing banter of the side characters. This one last me 80. It is always nice to have played the other prior ones, especially the last game but it is not necessary. You can pick up enough of what happened if you don’t want to buy the game but you do get a save bonus if you have it. It will have a bit of spoilers to the Legend of Heroes that have not been translated yet.

Characters
You will bond more with your characters and go farther than a hug. You will get more party members and previous strong characters are still very strong. If you ignored the side characters from your school, you will be in for a big surprise since make up a lot of your side quests.

Also, no announcement for the 3rd game in this series yet.

Another gem of an RPG by Falcom, and a highlight of the Trails series in general., September 11, 2016

Trails of Cold Steel II is the direct sequel to Trails of Cold Steel, and it improves upon virtually everything the first game had to offer.

In terms of gameplay, while the combat system was already excellent in Cold Steel 1, they managed to improve it even more in this game through the addition of something called "overdrive." I won’t go too into detail about what it does, but suffice to say it adds yet another layer to the combat gameplay and offers additional ways of defeating the enemy. The story progression feels significantly less formulaic than the first game, which tended to follow a very clear structure within each chapter.

In any case, this game is action-packed from start to finish. More importantly, it is a fun and inspiring tale that completes the story about Class VII and their daring exploits as they are tossed into the midst of a chaotic civil war. The soundtrack reflects this epic storyline, and believe me when I say it is one worth listening to! The first game had a great soundtrack, but this game has one that is even better. Even in situations as mundane as standard battles with trash mobs on the field, the soundtrack shines through as one of the game’s greatest strengths. In more intense moments when Class VII is caught up in the middle of one of their big missions, the music really sets the stage and helps the player appreciate the gravity of the moment.

If you are a fan of JRPGs, then play the original Trails of Cold Steel first. Once you’ve played that, come back and play this. It’s definitely worth it!

Please do yourself a favor and play Trails 1 before embarking on this journey into the second one. Every relationship fostered in the first one can be continued and expanded. The music is even better than the first one which I didn’t think would be possible. You will get at least another 60 hours worth of story in this and it is stellar writing. I would recommend this to any JRPG fan or Trials fan.
