So there are an overwhelming amount of glitches in the Wii U version. Hopefully there will be patches to fix these, but as I play through, the glitches seem to get worse and worse. There were small glitches that I over looked, like during transitions the character models would glitch out. But then there was a lengthy segment (the castle basement) where the coins would completely block the screen when collected (for those who don’t know, coins are everywhere so the screen was basically blocked every time I tried to take a step) and it drove me insane! Also the star wars theme music that would play during the chapter scrolling titles flipped out on me one time, transforming into a haunting 2 second loop of glitched audio.
But again, patches may polish this game further, and boy does it need polishing.

In a really cool way, this fills in the story of Force Awakens. You get more of the background on Han Solo and Chewbaka, Poe and Admiral Ackbar, and more. But at the same time it’s a light hearted Lego game that talks about Wookie Cookies. It’s a lot of fun.
They add a couple new mechanics. You can build multiple multiple things from one pile of bricks. It sounds cool but it really means you create and destroy the same pile of bricks over and over. There’s also new shootout scenes where you can take cover. These are something different and really break up the monotony of the game. The shootouts may be overused, but they’re fun. The Wii U specifically has some framerate drops and it’s locked up on me once already. I’m sure they’ll patch some of the issues, but everybody knows the Lego games are buggy. It looks like we’re not getting any of the DLC for the Wii U–par for the course for Lego Wii U games but still disappointing. It’s got a lot of real voicework from the real cast. It really got the voicework and music right. In fact the whole game has a lot of little polishes–it may not be anything really new, but a lot of work went into the details. If you’ve got the Wii U and want a fun new game for the whole family–this is a really fun game. I think that this, Lego City Undercover, and Batman 3 are probably my three favorite Lego games on the system. It’s definitely fine to wait for it to drop in price, but I wouldn’t skip this one!

*Note: They’ve released a large patch to this game that will install when you try to launch it. I have had no issues with the game on my playthrough at all so far, so you can probably disregard the 1 star comments that are complaining about bugs in the game*
This is quite possibly my favorite franchised Lego game to date. I admit I was getting quite bored of them, as the gameplay was just waaaay too repetitive after a few entries… making the charm of the design wear off really quickly. They’ve not only spiced things up a little gameplay wise, but they’ve added new lore to the movie with the actors reprising their roles as well! The humor is top notch (with some pretty hilarious references here and there… for those paying attention). I prefer the Off-TV multi-player, as opposed to the split screen bit that the other consoles can only do (this can do both)… this way you can go your separate ways and still see everything (really handy on the vehicle stages). I can say that I would recommend this Lego game, as it’s the first time I’ve had such fun playing one in a long time… and actually want to keep playing it. |
